To get there, head towards the Ospedale Forest, located northwest of Porto-Vecchio. Along the way, don’t forget to stop and admire the views over the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio. Once you arrive at the Bavella Needles, all that remains is to explore one of the most iconic mountain sites in Corsica.
Why Visit the Bavella Needles?
Located in Southern Corsica, at an altitude of 1,218 metres, the Bavella Needles are a must-see destination for hikers of all levels, from beginners to experienced walkers. The needles dominate the Bavella Pass, which links the Alta Rocca region to the east coast of Corsica.
The massif is characterised by sharp peaks and vast rock faces. Dozens of hiking trails await you, ranging from short walks to long hikes offering spectacular landscapes.
Ideally located within the Corsica Regional Natural Park, the Bavella Needles display impressive shapes and colours, from deep red to grey, surrounded by vast forests. Many hikes start directly from the Bavella Pass at 1,243 metres.
Allow around 3 hours round trip for the famous Trou de la Bombe, an easy and accessible hike.
The hike to Croix de Leccia takes about 2 hours and is more challenging—good hiking shoes are recommended.
Reaching the Paliri Refuge requires 4 hours round trip and is considered an easy hike.
For experienced hikers, the alpine variant of the GR20 offers a 4-hour round trip to Punta di u Pargulu, or 7 hours for the full loop returning via the GR20.
In winter, snow takes over! Snowshoeing, snowball fights and building snowmen guarantee moments of fun and relaxation for all ages.
