Location : About 75 km in the south of Calvi
et 80 km in the north of Ajaccio
The photo is misleading :
Behind this solitary genoese tower, is hidden one of the
highest places of tourism in Corsica. Dozen of hotels and
restaurants are to be found in the surroundings of the
tower and the mouth of the small river of Porto.
The wide mountainous bay and the red sunsets account for
this permanent attraction. All the more so as Porto is in
the center of a unique tourist area on the island : The « Calanches » are
about less than 5 km away, Girolata and Scandola about 30km
and the highest point in Corsica ( Monte Cinto – 2710m
) about 50 km away.
In summer, many boats leave from the small port of Porto
to go round the Gulf and admire its red cliffs. The hikers
will prefer the ascent of the Capo D Orto ( 1296m High )
that towers above the view.
In programm : a bird’s eye view on the Calanches and
the panorama on the whole Gulf of Porto.
