How to go ?
It is still difficult to go to Corsica. Persosten trikes, windy
weather, massive flood from beautiful days, high taxes ( but
price falling ) : no doubt, the island has to be derserved.
From Continent ( without Italy ), the easiest solution and certainly
the cheapest is the NGV ( french translation : high speed ship
) : 2h45 to 3h30 of journey from Nice to Calvi, Ile Rousse, Ajaccio
and Bastia ( also from Toulon to Ajaccio ), with happiness to
admire the corsican coastal with an arriving pratically in the
town centre. The choice is one time again reduced : SNCM or Corsicaferries.
Disavantages : the strikes still very frequent with the SNCM,
and bad weather which sometimes prevents the departure of these
ships less heavy than the ferries.
A third company stops Corsica from the continent : The Meridionale
(CMN ), which makeseach night rotations between Marseille and
Ajaccio, Bastia, Propriano or Ile Rousse on board « mixed
freighters ».

For plain, its is still expensive enough, but for charters (
to see corse-moins-cher.com ). Moreover, few things, but car
renting are planed in the airports to rally the big towns.
When to go ?
That is easy : may-june and september-october are the the most
pleasant, the less overloaded and the cheapest periods.
In july-August, accommodation is until 5 times more expensive,
the transports are crowded and many places begin looking like
the Azure coastal. Almost three quaters of the tourists come
during this season.
If it is impossible for you to avoid coming there ( and if you
can afford it ), try to go round Corsica by boat : no problem
of accommodation and no block on the beaches. In programm, deserted
creeks and landscapes to cut its breathing.
In low season, crowd has most certainly left, but the hotelkeepers
too. Sometimes difficult to find accommodation in winter excepted
to in the big towns.
On place
For a first visit, nothing better than car. Even if the corsican
roads are wild, the distances are short and you can see many
regions.
For floklore, have one time the train ( « Trinichellu » )
: That is not as high-speed train and that is better. There are
about 3 hours of journey for Ajaccio-Bastia and Calvi-Bastia
and until 6 hoursfor Calvi-Ajaccio…you have the time to
admire the landscapes of the interior, often prodigious. You can
tooadmire the « railway knot » of Corsica, Ponte-Leccia,
where the waits can be from many hours.
