Location
: about 20 km west from Ile-Rousse and
160 km north from Ajaccio
Historical city and a holiday resort, Calvi looks like
a giant postcard.
Historically, this is of course the genoese citadel, built
in the 13th century on a rocky headland. It allowed the
town of Calvi to resist very many invasions….the
only invaders are the tourists who come to admise beautiful
panoramas on Balagn and the bay. To see to, the ruins of
Christopher Colombus’ birth place... Through you
are likely to see other versions of his birth place in
Italy and Spain.
In addition to its long beach ( 6 km ) lined with a pine
forest, the town allows strolls through pleasant alleys
and around the harbour : Although it is packed with by
bars and tourists, it has kept a certain charm. The sunsets
and surrounding mountains have something to do in that.
